American Football League
Fall 2016
The American Football League has envisioned an inaugural season to be launched in the Fall of 2016. The AFL will consist of 20 teams stretching across the nation, divided into four divisions and no conferences. This is being done in an effort to reach the bulk of the nation with relevant teams and to reduce the costs of travel. We also feel that starting out with all 20 teams we can avoid the pitfalls of expansion. We have also decided to not have conferences dividing our teams because this generally just leads to allowing underperforming teams into the playoff structure.
The AFL intends to return pro football back to a style of play that is more intimate with the fans and more true to the kind of game we all grew up with. It accomplish this we will be reverting many rules back to those used in the 1960’s and 1970’s. We will also implement a 285 lbs. weight limit for players. This will both open up the field of play and reduce injuries. As an added benefit, it will also allow us a group of top talent rejected by the NFL. We feel that a more open field of play will speed up the game and make it more exciting as well.
We will hold our preseason in July of 2016 in a single city with all teams in the league. This too will reduce costs and allow us a better system to analyze

the players involved. The teams will then head to the cities necessary for the first games on their schedules. The first game to be played will be on Friday night, August 5th, 2016 at approximately 8 pm. If all goes well this first game will be televised on 4-DTV network from Los Angeles, CA. It is yet unknown what team the Los Angeles Rhinos will play. That will decided when the 2016 league schedule is set.
The playoff format will be established as the top team per division and the next top four teams in the league heading into a round robin bracket, single elimination. The Championship Game will be played in a city yet to be announced. The Championship Trophy will be new for each season so that the winning team can keep their trophy permanently. As we approach the inaugural season we will release more information.
